Abstract Last-mile delivery companies are facing significant challenges in increasing productivity due to the growth of e-commerce markets, coupled with the development of information communication technologies. It is important to maximize the operational efficiency of existing facilities because investment in facilities and equipment requires long-term planning. To tackle this issue, this study proposes a mathematical model for inbound truck scheduling to balance the workload across multiple temporary inventory storages located in each outbound chute, while minimizing the waiting time for inbound trucks. The proposed model strategically allocates inbound trucks to inbound docks with a dynamic scheduling and reschedule the plan whenever the terminal situation is updated. To evaluate its effectiveness, numerical experiments were conducted based on real-life data. It has been verified that the proposed methodology yields superior results compared to existing strategy. Based on this study, the efficiency of the parcel distribution center can be enhanced.
