Abstract This study analyzes the changes in loading efficiency and lifting workload by introducing partitions inside rolltainers. The loading experiments were conducted using the First Fit Decreasing (FFD) and First Fit (FF) algorithms. The physical workload of lifting tasks was evaluated using the Variable Lifting Index (VLI). The results indicated that the introduction of partitions tended to decrease the loading efficiency with the FFD algorithm, whereas it increased the loading efficiency with the FF algorithm. From a loading efficiency perspective, installing one partition at a height of 40 cm or 80 cm was advantageous, while from a workload perspective, installing two partitions at heights of 40 cm and 120 cm significantly reduced physical workload. This study quantitatively evaluates the impact of introducing partitions inside rolltainers on loading efficiency and worker workload, providing practical insights to enhance the efficiency and safety of logistics operations. Future research should validate the generalizability of these findings by conducting experiments that incorporate real-world data, reflecting diverse item sizes and conditions.
